Sephaku Cement supplies to Triangle Ready-Mix mobile plant for an urgent project

Establishing a fully operational mobile batch plant on a new building site was daunting, but Triangle ready-mix were up to the task of handling this major project, turning a logistical hurdle into an innovative triumph.

Triangle ready-mix’s client, a remotely situated chicken farm, wanted to expand its facilities and required high-quality concrete flooring. The challenge was formidable. The chicken farm was too far away from the Sasolburg plant to deliver ready-mix concrete in optimal condition, and an enormous, 388 tons of Sephaku Cement was needed for concrete batching urgently.

Ensuring all the necessary equipment and raw materials were transported and assembled correctly was a complex task. The farm location needed to be assessed for suitability, including space for the plant and accessibility for raw material deliveries and storage. The timely delivery of cement was crucial in ensuring that Triangle ready-mix could maintain continuity of supply to the project, to uphold the required quality standards of the concrete. As with any project, communication is of paramount importance between all stakeholders and involves significant planning and coordination.

By producing concrete on-site, Triangle ready-mix were able to guarantee that the concrete was fresh and of the highest quality – crucial for the durability and performance needed for this concrete flooring. The mobile plant was tailored to meet the specific requirements of the project, including a specific concrete mix design, which would be exposed to constant wear from the livestock on the floors. Due to the short timeline of the project and the fact that the mobile plant only had one silo on site, Triangle ready-mix opted for a blended cement, containing fly ash. For this purpose, Sephaku suggested a 42.5R cement from their Delmas plant, which contains approximately 15% fly ash and was ideally suited for this application.

Sephaku Cement’s orders and logistics team ensured that cement deliveries were scheduled and delivered on time to ensure continuous production. This approach not only showcases the flexibility and ingenuity required in modern building but also highlights our absolute commitment to quality, sustainability, and customer satisfaction.

By cutting down on long-distance transport, Triangle ready-mix was able to reduce turnaround times of mixer trucks, aligning to more sustainable practices in building. The mobile plant also optimised resources by producing only the amount of concrete necessary, significantly minimising waste.

There was also a positive community impact, as, this project created new jobs for the local workers. A total of 155 people were employed temporarily for the duration of the project and 85 of those people have now been employed on a permanent basis between Triangle ready-mix and the chicken farm.

Setting up a mobile concrete batch plant to supply concrete flooring for a remotely-located chicken farm is testament to innovative thinking and practical problem-solving – meeting not only the farm’s needs but setting a benchmark for future projects. With the precise planning and execution, the mobile concrete batch plant became a cornerstone of success for the chicken farm’s expansion, cementing the way for similar solutions in diverse sectors.
