At the end of December 2023, in a synchronised, epic feat of seamless planning, rigid logistics and teamwork, Sephaku delivered a total of 1422 cubic metres of ready-mixed concrete for Metier to deliver a single pour for a raft foundation for an office park in Gauteng, in just 14 hours!
Sephaku Cement supplies Metier’s largest single pour ready-mix concrete project in Gauteng
Metier, using two, 36m boom pumps, poured the ready-mix concrete in a steady, even flow to fill the foundation, which had to be completed in a specific span of time to ensure the stability and integrity of the foundation.
The ready-mix cement, supplied by Sephaku, was delivered every two hours from 5am, to ensure an even, continuous pour into this massive substructure. With an average of 100m3 an hour supplied on site – almost triple the volume for a standard floor pour – trucks, working in rotation, delivered 245 tons of ready-mix concrete from the Metier Centurion plant, that day
Meticulous planning ensured that the delivery and pour rate was perfectly aligned to ensure product stability while adhering to the limitations of the production rate. Each process was carefully controlled and timed to allow for the consistent delivery for this site, as well as the six other massive construction projects underway on that day.
Mitigation plans, even though they weren’t required, were carefully considered from a backup tanker of concrete to an entire ready-mix plant on standby to supply the same mix in the unlikely event that the main supply plant experienced any challenges.
